Biblical Christians, Beware Of Spiritual Gatherings In Name Of Unity With Glenn Beck!

(This is not a knock against Glenn’s work on our Constitution, the economy, Marxism, and the history of our nation.  Excellent work!  This is about biblical, spiritual, theological issue only.)

Glenn Beck is hosting 2 events this weekend:

August 27th – Divine Destiny

August 28th – Restoring Honor

Please read the following:  the true God of the Holy Bible, namely Jesus Christ our Lord, shall prevail over the gates of Hell..

Following Glenn Beck’s Divine Destiny or God’s Word

By Brannon S. Howse

Would you approve or disapprove if some of America’s evangelical pastors and religious leaders announced they were going to show up at “Oprah’s Divine Destiny” meeting at the Kennedy Center for an evening that would include uplifting music and nationally-known religious figures from all faiths as they unite in prayer and recite historical speeches? Would it concern you if you knew that on her radio program Oprah has taught the book called A Course in Miracles written by Helen Schucman? This book and the workbook include such quotes as:

“A slain Christ has no meaning.”
“The recognition of God is the recognition of yourself.”
“Do not make the pathetic error of ‘clinging to the old rugged cross’.”
“My salvation comes from me.”

True Bible-believing Christians would not approve of evangelical pastors and leaders uniting with Oprah in a self-described, religious and spiritual meeting. Why? Because most Biblically thinking Christians do not agree with Oprah’s liberal politics and they know that the truth of God’s Word and Oprah’s pagan spirituality do not mix.

However, many of these same Christians will have no problem when some of America’s evangelical pastors join radio personality and television host Glenn Beck for a spiritual program, because unlike Oprah, they share Beck’s conservative, political views. To many it makes no matter that Beck is a self-described Mormon because his political views trump his religious views and for this reason many will justify taking part in “Glenn Becks Divine Destiny” program at the Kennedy Center on August 27th.

The Apostle Paul warns Christians against uniting with unbelievers in spiritual endeavors in 2 Corinthians 6:14 where we read, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” In verse 16 Paul declares that Christians must be spiritually separate from non-believers. Remember Paul is talking about being spiritually separate. “Glenn Beck’s Divine Destiny” program at the Kennedy Center on Friday evening August 27, 2010 has been specifically described by organizers as “a unique spiritual event.”

While I applaud and agree with many of Glenn Beck’s conservative and constitutional views, that does not give me or any other Bible-believing Christian justification to compromise Biblical truth by spiritually joining Beck in an event, that according to his own website, will include an evening in which “nationally-known religious figures from all faiths will unite…”. The website continues “The audience for the event will be overwhelmingly made up of pastors, ministers and clergy…” The event is also described as an evening “that will help heal your soul.” This event is clearly a spiritual event with Glenn declaring on a video on his website that the hymn Eternal Father Strong to Save “is the message of 8/27”.  The problem is that as a Mormon, Glenn’s definition of God the Father is not the same as that described by Jesus Christ Himself in the Bible.

Glenn says, “I have been reaching out to the biggest names in faith for the last year…I have met with the biggest leaders of faith in the country privately and I have asked them to help me put differences aside and to reach out with one another so we can remind people to get down on their knees for our brethren’s shield in our dangerous hour.”

Christians that want to be committed to Biblical truth cannot “put aside” the cross and Gospel of Jesus Christ nor the supremacy of Scripture by spiritually uniting with those that proclaim another Jesus, another gospel and declare the cross foolishness.

Many  American Christians will allow their commitment to reclaiming the country, reclaiming Congress, lowering taxes, and defeating the progressives trump their commitment to the Biblical mandate declared in 2 Corinthians 6 as well as the mandate of 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 which commands Christians to expose every high and lofty thing lifted up against the principles of the Lord.

American Christians should not and cannot rate our success on whether or not we return our country and culture to its Christian roots. Our success or failure must be based on whether or not we have been faithful servants of the one and only true God and have earnestly contended for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 3).

We appreciate the strong and courageous stands that Glenn has taken but Christians must understand that Glenn is now, by his own choice, promoting something that is not compatible with Biblical Christian doctrines. While Christians can join Glenn in opposing tyranny, socialism, cultural Marxism, and the like; we cannot join him spiritually. We can be co-belligerents on many moral issues with non-Christians but we cannot find common ground theologically, doctrinally, and spiritually. This is not according to me, Brannon Howse, but according to the Word of God. Christians must understand that the Jesus of the cults is not the Jesus of the Bible.

Please remember that I started the website www.keepglennbeck.com to support Glenn when the radicals wanted his advertisers to stop advertising in his program because at the time he was not promoting spirituality but simply providing excellent information about what was happening in the arena of civil government and law. However, Glenn has now moved into an area where we must draw a clear line theologically, doctrinally and spiritually.

I have yet to see anything that would cause me to have a problem with the 8-28 event at the Lincoln Memorial because I have not seen that event described as a “spiritual event” or a “uniting of all faiths” for the purpose of “healing your soul.” If that is what it becomes then I will be equally opposed to the 8-28 event. My concern is really focused on the 8/27 event for the reasons I have articulated.

Some misinformed Christians have e-mailed me Mark 9:38-41 to try and convince me that partnering with Glenn Beck for a “unique spiritual event” is acceptable Biblically even if Glenn Beck is not a Christian, but indeed a Mormon by his own admission. Verse 40 says “For he who is not against us is on our side.” There is just one big problem; the people emailing me this verse are taking this scripture completely out of context. Mark 9 is not speaking of a non-Christian that is doing something good but it is clearly speaking of a true follower of Jesus Christ that was successful in casting out a demon.

If you do not think it is Biblically acceptable for a Biblically committed Christian to be united in a spiritual event with Oprah Winfrey then why is it not also unacceptable to unite spiritually in the 8/27 event with Glenn Beck or any other religious leaders that do not adhere to Biblical orthodoxy? How much different are the religious beliefs of Oprah and the beliefs of Mormons? Christian author Ed Decker who was a Mormon for 20 years of his adult life and was a member of the Melchizedek priesthood, a Temple Mormon and active in many church positions before becoming a Christian has revealed to me such facts as:

  • Mormons believe the cross of Christ is foolishness and thus you will not find a cross in or on top of a Mormon temple.  Thus a Mormon could say “Do not make the pathetic error of ‘clinging to the old rugged cross’.”

  • Mormons believe the blood Jesus Christ shed on the cross is not what saves and thus Mormons will not use red wine or red juice for communion but they use water. Thus a Mormon could say “A slain Christ has no meaning.”

  • Mormons believe that salvation is not found in placing your faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone but in good works.  Thus a Mormon could say “My salvation comes from me.”

  • Mormons believe that God is one of many Gods and that every good Mormon man can become a God himself. This belief is called the law of eternal progression and is best described in this popular Mormon saying, “As man is, God once was, and as God is, man may become.” Thus a Mormon could say that “The recognition of God is the recognition of yourself.”

Do these pastors and Christian leaders not understand that by appearing on stage at this “unique spiritual event” they are sending the message that Biblical Christianity and Mormonism (and any other unbiblical worldview represented) can indeed find spiritual common ground? This is not only a public relations victory for Mormonism but also for universalism.

According to the LDS General Authority and President of the Council of the Twelve, Ezra Taft Benson, the LDS doctrine is that the living prophet is above the scripture.[1]  I would humbly plead with those Christians taking part in this spiritual event to not put their own personal desires and agenda above the scripture.

Christians e-mail me to tell me that Glenn Beck uses Christian terms and thus he must be a Christian. Indeed Mormons, as well as New Agers, use many of the same terms that Bible believing Christians use but their definitions of those terms are in direct opposition to the Biblical definitions.

Christians also e-mail me to tell me that they heard Glenn Beck give the gospel on his television program one night. I watched that program and Glenn clearly stated that he had called Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention to have Land explain to Glenn the gospel message according to evangelicals so Glenn could contrast it with the collective salvation of President Obama. Glenn provided this contrast; he did not state that he had rejected Mormonism for the truth of the Biblical gospel.

It is not Biblically acceptable for Christians to join Oprah for “a unique spiritual event” and it is equally not Biblical for Christians to join Glenn Beck for “a unique spiritual event.” I do however urge all Christians to pray for Oprah and Glenn that they may indeed come to know the Jesus Christ of the Bible as their personal Lord and Savior. (John 14:6)

Millions of Christian families are watching to see who will have the Biblical discernment and courage to be obedient to God and His Word in which He has clearly revealed His will for us concerning this matter. My heart grieves for the teenagers, college students, and spiritually immature Christians that will be confused and even led astray by this co-mingling of spiritual worldviews.

Do not be shocked, pastors and Christian leaders, when your personal appearance and endorsement of this spiritually pluralistic event increase the already rising numbers of young people leaving evangelical churches to join the Mormon Church. Neither be surprised, my friends, when discerning Christians are leery of your future work because of your betrayal of clear Biblical instruction on this very issue. I want your testimony and credibility preserved and beg you to graciously cancel your participation in this “spiritual event”.

I have received numerous e-mails from former Mormons who understand the seriousness of this issue. Here is one such e-mail:

I was a tenured professor at Brigham Young University from 1999-2008, a dug-in Mormon for 30 years. Christ drew me and I went face down in surrender to the Biblical Christ, now a strong Christian. As former Mormon leaders, my husband and I have been speaking to Christians about Glenn Beck for some time and are shocked at the resistance we hear from Christians who don’t seem to understand the gravity of this false and slippery “christ” of Mormonism.

The late Vance Havner was correct when he declared:

The devil is not fighting religion; he is too smart for that. He is producing a counterfeit Christianity so much like the real one that good Christians are afraid to speak out against it.

As long ago as 1898, Abraham Kuyper warned in the Stone Lectures at Princeton:

Do not forget that the fundamental contrast has always been, is still and always will be until the end; Christianity and Paganism, the idols and the living God.

I pray that America’s Christians and pastors will understand that there is an unbiblical and dangerous spiritual convergence taking place throughout the nation and the world and today is the day to choose whether you will uncompromisingly stand for the living God or give creditability to pagan spirituality.

In I Kings 18:20-21 Elijah declared to the Children of Israel, who were seeking to follow God while also mixing their worship of God with pagan spirituality, that they must choose to whom they would pledge their allegiance. Elijah asked the Israelites “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.”

Yes, I would like to see the progressives defeated and the original intent of America’s Founding Fathers restored, but that certainly will not happen if the true Bride of Christ compromises on Biblical truth.

This is no time to be committed to pragmatism because the end does not justify the means. The means simply declares our priorities and Whom we really serve.

George W. And Laura Surprise Our Troops Again

President Bush embraces soldier at the Run for the Fallen in Ogunquit, Maine, August 22, 2010

George and Laura surprised our wounded soldiers at Fort Hood

They welcomed returning troops from Iraq at USO in Dallas/Fort Worth

This past Sunday, August 22, 2010, they surprised participants in the third annual “Run for the Fallen”.

Dozens of runners took part in the event to honor the 65 military men and women who have died overseas since 2001.  When the run was over, everyone gathered at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth for a lobster bake.  They were pleasantly surprised with a visit from former President George W. and First Lady Laura Bush.  They wanted to thank the runner and organizers for this tribute to the fallen soldiers.

George W. and Laura at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth for third annual Run for the Fallen, Ogunquit, Maine

CAPE ELIZABETH — Former President George W. Bush made a surprise appearance at the third annual Run for the Fallen Maine event on Sunday, Aug. 22; the run honors Maine servicemen and women who have given their lives defending the country since Sept. 11, 2001.

Bush showed up at Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth at approximately 4:30 p.m., under drizzling weather.

He greeted runners as they finished the last leg of their 65-kilometer trek from Ogunquit to pay homage to Maine’s 65 “fallen heroes.”

Three-year event participant Nancy Lee Kelley said meeting the former president was “a dream come true.”

Kelley, a resident of Old Orchard Beach and mother of Army Capt. Christopher Cash, who died in Iraq on June 24, 2004, said this wasn’t the first time she had met Bush.

She first met the former president in a schoolhouse in Kennebunkport in August 2006, when he had agreed to meet with five Maine families who lost their children in the war on terror.

Kelley said she was in disbelief when Bush on late Sunday afternoon recalled the exact date and location of the moment they had first met.

“August 2006, Kennebunkport,” Bush told her matter-of-factly when he shook her hand, Kelley said.

After Kelley asked him with a mixture of shock and disbelief if he really remembered her, she said he replied, “Yep. I never forget.”

Ogunquit resident John Mixon, director and coordinator of the event, said Bush actually changed his vacation plans in Maine in order to attend the run.

Bush’s only request, according to Kelley, was to makes sure news organizations were not in attendance.

“It’s not a photo op for him,” Kelley said. “He does it from the heart.”

Event participant Donna Lewis said some people were “in tears” upon Bush’s arrival, and that for a “president who left office with a lot of people angry” about his handling of the war, his reception was warm and welcoming.

“He listened to everyone’s story and acted like it was the most important thing he’s done,” Lewis said.

The run started at Veterans Park in Ogunquit Center at 8 a.m. and continued all the way up Route 1 through Monument Square in Portland to Fort Williams. Participants enjoyed a free lobster bake in Fort Williams.

Mixon said it was hard keeping the former president’s arrival kept secret until the last minute, adding that this year’s turnout for the run was higher than ever before.

“We got to see firsthand what it meant to these families to have recognition that their child had not been forgotten,” said Lewis.

What a couple!

Holocaust Survivor Is Lastest Target Of ‘Islamicization’

THEIR TARGET:  YOU

AND YOUR WORLD!

The process is gradual … a culture comes to regard tolerance of Islamic religious practices as politically correct;  then the rest of Islam’s components begin creeping in.

This video is a perfect example of the point.  Obviously the mosque supporter has been conditioned by the Lie of Islam. Our subjugation to political correctness has made this possible, so much so in this case, that the mosque supporter has lost his respect for a man much older than he and he has no compassion or empathy for the startling information given him by the holocaust survivor.

The survivor tells the mosque supporter, “I love freedom, I’m a Holocaust Survivor!  I lived under Hitler!” That should have stopped the conversation.  Instead, it fueled it as we hear the mosque supported proclaim that the holocaust survivor had not learned his lesson!  WHAT!  WHAT LESSON?

This is frightening to me.  It should be to you also.  It demonstrates how far down the road we are to becoming Sharia friendly.  The profane anti-Semitism just spews from the mouth of the mosque supporter.

The mosque supporter has bought into the LIE OF ISLAM! Little does he know that the mosque he supports with vigor would be more than just a building … it represents a “system of life” – with religious, legal, political, social, economic and military components.

The bloodthirsty agenda of radical Islam could not be more opposite from American values and Judeo-Christian ethics!

(caution: profanity in this video)

God Bless America and Shalom to the Survivor

Ed Schultz Has A MSNBC Meltdown

H/t Hot Air

The obligatory “Ed Schultz allegedly flips out over something or other at MSNBC” post

I’m as surprised as you are. He’s always seemed like such a calm, mellow customer.

MSNBC talk show screamer Ed Schultz had a meltdown in the network’s 30 Rock newsroom, shouting at staff, “I’m going to torch this [bleep]ing place.”

A witness told us, “Ed was furious the network was running election-night promos and he wasn’t in them. He’d been arguing on the phone with marketing, then he slammed down the phone and exploded. It was like Mel Gibson had entered the newsroom.”…

Fuming Schultz was immediately dragged in for a meeting with NBC News President Steve Capus and MSNBC President Phil Griffin following his Aug. 12 meltdown.

Our source added, “Schultz was told: ‘If you do that again, you are fired.’ He broke down crying.”

Reasons to doubt that the story’s true: (1) It comes from Page Six, which of course trades in gossip and has a history of dueling with MSNBC hosts; (2) Two weeks between the alleged meltdown happening and news of it leaking out seems like a long lag time, no? (3) Could even Big Ed’s ego be so fragile that he’d react this way to not being given a two-second mention in a promo? That seems … well, actually, scratch that last one.

Any reason to think the story is true, apart from the traditional reports of infighting and personality clashes and even occasional on-air pissiness among the talent at the DNC’s favorite network? Actually, yeah. Here’s video from “Morning Joe” clipped by Inside Cable News back on August 13, the day after Schultz’s alleged tirade. ICN says Scarborough’s parting line struck him as inexplicable at the time — but not anymore. What a catch.

“It sounds like something Schultz would.  I find him quite entertaining.  I watch him sometimes late at night to just get a good hearty lol.  Just watching him rant just breaks me up!”

Today prosecutors announced they would drop all charges against Robert Blagojevich.

But just yesterday, they had a different proposal.

Robert Blagojevich on dropped case: “It’s just a joyous moment.”

In an interview just minutes after learning federal prosecutors had dropped the case against him, Robert Blagojevich said his wife cried at the news.

“It’s stunning,” Robert Blagojevich said after receiving a text message and cell phone call from his lawyer, Michael Ettinger, informing him he was “free.”

“The government did the right thing,” Robert said. “They did the right thing.”

He said he and his wife, Julie, have called friends and they plan to go out for a steak dinner tonight.

Robert Blagojevich also said he plans to give his attorneys a “winners’ bonus” for their work.

“They deserve it,” he said.

Jon Stewart to Blagojevich on Daily Show: “I’d like to see you as a victim — but you make it so hard.”

By

Natasha Korecki

on August 23, 2010 10:26 PM

The Rod Blagojevich media tour 2010 stopped at the Daily Show this evening and funnyman Jon Stewart goes hard at Blagojevich’s tough talk on TV.

Stewart tells Blagojevich he’d like to see him as a Dickens’ character. But …

“I’d like to see you as a victim — but you make it so hard,” Stewart says, dramatically lowering his head.

Blagojevich maintained that prosecutors lodged the loftiest of charges against him and still couldn’t convict him of corruption.
“They threw everything at me but the kitchen sink … everyone thought I was a scumbag around the world, right?” Blagojevich said. “That’s what I’m up against.”

Stewart played back a tape of Blagojevich from a year ago when he then tried to explain his words on tape: “I’ve got this thing and it’s f—ing golden.” In 2009, Blagojevich explains that in the next few words that prosecutors didn’t reveal at the time, he talks about health care for Illinois. But the now-released tape shows Blagojevich actually discussed
parachuting himself into the Senate seat spot and calling President Obama a “demigod.”

“The reality of what you said is very different,” Stewart says.

Blagojevich hems and haws as he tries to explain: “Listen to the whole tape.”

Stewart cuts him off: “Is this why you didn’t take the stand?” the audience laughs.

Stewart then continued to grill Blagojevich for promising to take the stand but failing to do so at his trial.

“Do you promise to take the stand the next time you’re indicted?” Stewart asks to many laughs.

Blagojevich case: Retrial maybe not until next year. And if ex-gov wants public money, he’ll be down to two lawyers

By

Natasha Korecki

on August 23, 2010 5:07 PM

If Rod Blagojevich wants to tap public money for the defense costs in his next trial, he’ll be limited to two lawyers.

Meanwhile, at least one defense lawyer in the case says he won’t be prepared for retrial until next year.

Rod Blagojevich had five lawyers who questioned witnesses for the last go-around, plus two more attorneys who acted as support throughout the case.

In a retrial though, he’ll only be able to have two if he wants public money, according to rules set out by the Criminal Justice Act. That act sets out the criteria for a defendant to tap public resources.

Former Federal Defender Terence F. MacCarthy said that U.S. District Judge James Zagel is bound by that act. It allows for one lawyer except in complicated cases or in death penalty cases.

“You can only have two lawyers in the courtroom,” MacCarthy said. “There’s a little wiggle room. If you’ve got someone doing a research project, you can wiggle room it in. But you cannot pay them for sitting in the courtroom.”

Sources have said that both Sam Adam Jr. and his father no longer want to be on the case. Their defense team has tapped the $2.8 million campaign fund that was paid out at $110 an hour for the last trial.

While prosecutors have publicly said they want to retry the case as quickly as possible (Prosecutor Reid Schar even suggested “tomorrow” last week), Michael Ettinger, attorney for Robert Blagojevich, said he has schedule conflicts that would keep him from redoing the case this year.

“I’m out until next year,” Ettinger said today.

Blagojevich juror: Robert Blagojevich shouldn’t be tried again

By

on August 18, 2010 2:54 PM

BY MARK J. KONKOL AND NATASHA KORECKI Staff Reporters

Jurors in the trial of former governor Rod Blagojevich overwhelmingly wanted to send his brother home a free man — voting nine to three in favor of acquittal, one member of the jury said today. But the former governor “was lucky” that he wasn’t convicted on more counts, the juror said.

That juror, John Grover of Joliet, said in an interview this afternoon that prosecutors shouldn’t put the Robert Blagojevich through another trial.

“I sat there for days and days and days and days and never heard his name mentioned,” the disabled vet said.

Blagojevich jurors complaining to judge about media contact

By

on August 18, 2010 2:26 PM

The Clerk of court has just sent out this release, on behalf of U.S. District Judge James Zagel.

“It has come to the Court’s attention that certain jurors in the Blagojevich trial are calling and complaining about numerous phone calls from the media asking for interviews and visiting their homes. The United States Marshal has advised the jurors to call 911 to report the incidents.

Please keep in mind that some of these jurors simply do not wish to talk, and if they have not agreed to talk with you, we ask that you respect their privacy.”

Glenn Beck, How Can You Restore Honor To The Country When You Don’t Honor God?

Let me start by saying that I am a fan of Glenn Beck’s.  I watch him everyday as many of you do.  He is doing a fantastic job of helping us to restore the history of our country. That’s a good thing.

Recently, he appeared on Bill O’Reilly’s Show and said he was not concerned about Gay Marriage, this is what he said:

I was concerned to hear him say that Gay Marriage did not matter to him.  I had heard him briefly mention the subject before on one of his programs.

Glenn, you have it wrong on this one.  Homosexual Marriage will be one of the issues that will bring America down.  It brought Sodom and Gomorrah down.  If God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of homosexuality, He will certainly do the same to America.  Why?  Because He is a just and fair and loving God.  He is not respecter of persons.

I don’t think that Glenn has a good understanding of the whole counsel of God’s Word.  If he did, he would certainly not be approval of gay marriage.

Glenn keeps telling the people that they have to get back to God and church.  I agree.  But my question to Glenn is, “What God are you serving?”  It’s not the God of the Holy Bible because He does not approve of gay marriage.  Glenn needs to stop quoting presidents so much and quote our Creator.

It just rips me apart to see a guy that has it so together when it comes to the history of our country and exposing the Marxist Communists in our present government, but turns around and completely falls short of the cultural issues of the day.

It will hurt Glenn a lot that he is pushing social issues aside.  He says that there are BIGGER FISH TO FRY AND THE COUNTRY IS ON FIRE.  Did he ever stop to wonder why??  Gay Marriage is one of the reasons our country is on fire!

It’s because we have left God and have decided to do our own thing.  If Gay Marriage ever becomes legal in this country, that will be the end of the traditional way of life.  At that point, anything will go.  We will have lost our moral compass.

What we need to understand is that what goes on in one’s bedroom does not stay in the bedroom.  It comes out to Main Street and seeks the approval of everyone else.  Those of us who choose to follow God’s example of what a marriage should be (that is between a man and a woman) will never approve of this perversion.

I think we all know the drill.

If any of you are going to Glenn Beck’s Restore Honor Rally, just remember … honor our God first and insist that Glenn does also.

Some Points To Remember

h/t Concerned Women for America

Why Homosexual “Marriage” is Wrong 9/16/2003

By Jan LaRue, Chief Counsel

  1. Homosexuals are seeking a special right. They already have the same right to marry the rest of us have-the right to marry a person of the opposite sex. Limiting marriage to one man and one woman doesn’t discriminate on the basis of sex or sexual orientation.
  2. It denies the self-evident truth of nature that male and female bodies are designed for and complement each other. Opposite-sex marriage is the natural means by which the human race reproduces.
  3. Granting same-sex couples a license to marry will not create true marriage. Neither two men nor two women can become one flesh. Licensing the unnatural does not make it natural. It would be a state-sanctioned counterfeit, a sham and a fraud. A licensed electrician cannot produce power by taping two same-sex plugs together. Homosexual sex is dangerous and destructive to the human body and powerless for human reproduction.
  4. Homosexual marriage will always be an abomination to God regardless of whether a clergyman performs the ceremony. When God calls something unholy, man cannot make it holy or bless it.
  5. Homosexual marriage is as wrong as giving a man a license to marry his mother or daughter or sister or a group.
  6. Homosexual marriage will harm children by denying them the love and nurture of a mom and dad. The only “procreation” homosexuals can engage in requires that a third party must be brought into the relationship.
  7. Granting a marriage license to homosexuals because they engage in sex is as illogical as granting a medical license to a barber because he wears a white coat or a law license to a salesman because he carries a briefcase. Real doctors, lawyers and the public would suffer as a result of licensing the unqualified and granting them rights, benefits and responsibilities as if they were qualified.
  8. Homosexual marriage will devalue your marriage. A license to marry is a legal document by which government will treat same-sex marriage as if it were equal to the real thing. A license speaks for the government and will tell society that government says the marriages are equal. Any time a lesser thing is made equal to a greater, the greater is devalued. For example:

  • If the Smithsonian Museum displays a hunk of polished blue glass next to the Hope Diamond with a sign that says, “These are of equal value,” and treats them as if they were, the Hope Diamond is devalued in the public’s eye. The government says it’s just expensive blue glass. The history and mystery are lost too.
  • If an employer uses a robot as an employee and treats the robot the same way it treats human employees, human employees are devalued. By doing so, the employer says, “A robot can do your job, you’re no better.” What will you and the public think of your job and you?
  • If the government issues a license to babysitters that grants them the same rights, protections and responsibilities as a child’s parents, parenthood is devalued. The government says parents are just babysitters.
  • If government grants professional licenses to just anybody, every profession and qualified professional is devalued. The government says an uneducated panhandler can do brain surgery.

The assumption by many is that marriage is just two people with a license who have sex and wear rings. Homosexuals do that?  Why not give them the license? Engaging in sex doesn’t equal marriage. Adults involved in incest have sex too; should government call it marriage and license them? Certainly not.

The biggest problem we have in getting people, especially younger ones, to understand why marriage is devalued by the existence of a counterfeit is that much of the public does not value marriage at all. Adultery is no big deal. No- fault divorce is tolerated. Absentee fathers and mothers devalue marriage. Unmarried pregnancies are common. Fornication is “normal.” When we make the case against homosexual marriage, we need to speak against these other problems that devalue marriage too. As we acknowledge these problems we can emphasize that legalizing homosexual marriage will compound the problems, not solve or lessen them.
