The Thanksgiving Table: The Pumpkin Pie

Bless the Lord…who satisfies your mouth with good things…
Psalm 103:1, 5

The pumpkin pie has one great purpose in a thanksgiving feast–to remind us that the best is yet to come. There on the table are our traditional favorites: green bean casserole, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, corn, slaw, the turkey and dressing, rolls with butter, and maybe a new dish or two. But the best is saved for last–pumpkin pie–sweeter than anything that precedes it.

As Christians, we enjoy a cornucopia of blessings every day. Psalm 103 tells us to bless the Lord with all that is within us and not to forget all His benefits. Ephesians 1:3 reminds us we’ve been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.

But the best is yet to come. When the great missionary Adoniram Judson was asked about the prospects for evangelizing Burma, he replied that the prospects there were “just as bright as the promises of God.” We can say the same about our own prospects–for every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before.

To trust God is to trust His promises. And to trust God’s promises is to be sure of their fulfillment. This assurance concerning the future, anchored in God’s promises, is what the Bible calls “hope.”

Thanks In, Not For

In everything give thanks;  for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

What could have motivated Horatio Spafford to pen the words to the mighty hymn “It Is Well with My Soul?” Before writing the hymn he had lost his only son in 1871, been financially ruined by the great Chicago fire of the same year, and then lost his four daughters at sea in 1873. His motivation was likely the truth of 1 Thessalonians 5:18: “In everything give thanks.”

Many claim the verse is unrealistic: How could anyone give thanks for events like Spafford endured? But the verse says to give thanks in all things, not for all things. God expects no one to be thankful for tragedies that befall us in this life. But He does expect us to trust Him in the midst of such circumstances. In those difficult times, we can thank God that He will cause all things to work together for good in our life (Romans 8:28). While we grieve for those events and the losses incurred, we can give thanks even while in their midst.

Giving thanks when things are good requires enthusiasm, but giving thanks in hard times requires faith. If you are in the midst of difficulties, begin each of your days with a prayer of thanks.  It will make a difference.

Prayer without thanksgiving is like a bird without wings.

Christians Being Targeted Near Dearborn, MI?

H/t American Values

A Chilling Warning To Churches

After reporting on the Ground Zero mega-mosque last week, I received a disturbing e-mail from a supporter in Michigan. Evidently, the FBI sent a warning letter to Oakland County churches last week warning them of “suspicious activity.” For those not familiar with Michigan’s geography, Oakland County is just north of Dearborn, often described as America’s most Muslim city. Here is an excerpt of the letter:

“Dear Worship Coordinator:

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Oakland County Resident Agency, would like to bring to your attention suspicious activity occurring on several occasions over the last several months at Oakland County places of worship. Visitors to these places of worship have shown particular interest in the layout of the building; have questioned personnel as to where people congregate; when the worship center would be populated; and where Christians could be found in the building.”

That is a chilling warning from the FBI that suggests churches in Oakland County are possibly being cased. A FBI spokesman said there was no indication of a threat, but added, “We’re simply passing along information we received to area churches indicating that suspicious activity is going on, in an abundance of caution.”

This alert is very important because this is in the same vicinity of the Arab Festival incident where Christians were arrested for expressing their First Amendment Rights by passing out literature to the public.

We will continue to keep a watchful eye on these activities

All Lovers Of Life – Take Note – You Are Needed

I have just received this alert from Faith and Freedom :

I gave my support – will you give yours?  If you cannot give financially, please post this on your blogs/websites to help get the word out.  Here’s the alert:

NARAL Takes on Faith and Freedom

NARAL Pro-Choice Washington published an urgent message to all their constituents this past Friday saying they must defeat Faith and Freedom.

The message from Lauren Simonds, executive director, began:

Dear …, make a contribution to NARAL Pro-Choice Washington and turn out the pro-choice vote.

I just read some alarming news about anti-choice conservatives in our state, and I had to let you know right away. The Wall Street Journal reports:

In Bellevue, Wash., the Faith and Freedom Network plans to hire activists for about $10 an hour next month to promote statewide candidates with Judeo-Christian values for the fall elections, says Gary Randall, the group’s president. Recruits will knock on doors and will be dispatched in large groups, hoping to draw media attention, he says.

“That’s right,” Simonds says, “the Faith and Freedom Network, a right-wing, anti-choice organization is mobilizing its activists to turn out the vote in support of anti-choice, anti-woman candidates.”

We are not supporting any “anti-woman” candidates. I don’t know any “anti-woman” candidates. As you well know, we support people who are pro-life and pro-marriage and pro-family. And yes, fiscally conservative.

The email says, “PROTECT & ELECT. Don’t let a right wing, anti-choice organization
call the shots this election. Make a contribution to NARAL…”

They will raise tens of thousands of dollars as a result of this one email to help them
defeat and undermine our efforts.

Will you stand with us against this Advocate For Evil ?

Will you help us educate voters so they can make informed decisions as they vote?

I don’t think any of us believe this is a time to stand by in silence. Or have lengthy discussions as to whether or not Christians should be involved.

Please help us by making a donation to Faith and Freedom, now.

Please do not be silent or inactive. Anything you can do to help is deeply appreciated.

We have stood against the rage of the press and others as we have advocated for natural marriage, family and traditional Judeo-Christian values. You will recall the fury of opposition to R-71.

We are not fearful, but know full well the press will come along side NARAL and others who oppose those who seek to kill the unborn. Or to redefine marriage and family. The opposition
will not be restrained.

I am willing to stand alone against this “advocate for evil” but we cannot prevail alone. We can only prevail with your support. Together, we can impact the upcoming elections and the future.

There is a great opportunity to see new leadership elected to the legislature this election. NARAL and others like them recognize the opportunity we have before us. They seek to destroy our efforts.

I sincerely hope and pray we recognize that opportunity.

Will you please make a tax deductible donation now? It will be used entirely to educate and inform voters.

You can also send a check to:

Faith and Freedom Foundation

Box 399
Bellevue, WA 98009

The Wall Street Journal was correct, except that our campaign they referenced will be launched after the primary and will involve youth from various churches in selected areas. I did not want to announce this until next month, simply because there are those who work to undermine any of our efforts, particularly when they know in advance. I know you understand.

Details on this aspect of our efforts will be forthcoming after the primary election. Specific candidates and locations will be announced.

NARAL says, “We cannot afford to lose our pro-choice majority in the legislature.”

Indeed they can’t. They are deeply linked to Planned Parenthood, the leader in the abortion industry. To lose their majority could mean the loss of millions of dollars that flow to Planned Parenthood each year from lawmakers for so-called “health care”.

We likely cannot match the money NARAL and others will raise and spend to discredit and undermine our efforts and promote their pro-death agenda, however we can make our best stand and will do so. Your financial support will determine how strong our stand can be.

Thank you for reading our words and hearing our heart. And thank you for standing with us.

Be Vigilant. Be Vocal. Be Active. Be Prayerful. Be Blessed. Be Free.

Obama’s New Mission For NASA Is Deeply Flawed

hat tip:  Faith and Freedom Network

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden says that President Obama has asked him to make “dominantly Muslim nations feel good.”

NASA’s head guy says the President has told him that his “foremost” mission at NASA is to find a way to, “reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good” about their accomplishments in math and science.

Bolden told Al Jazeera TV, “The United States is not going to travel beyond low-Earth orbit on its own.”

Michael Griffin, former NASA Administrator under President George W. Bush, says Obama’s idea that NASA’s priority should be an outreach to Muslim countries is “deeply flawed.”

He said, “Muslim nation cooperation is not vital for US advancements in space exploration.”

“There is no technology they have that we need,” he said.

I am certain Griffin reflects the feelings of most of the people at NASA who have built the most advanced and successful space exploration organization in history.

Astronaut Jim Irwin, who flew in Apollo 15 and walked on the moon, was a personal friend of mine. I assure you he did not view NASA as a diplomatic outreach to Muslim nations. I’m sure many others share his pride and patriotism.

While our President is “remaking” America, bankrupting coming generations of young Americans, suing the citizens of Arizona and pushing us off the precipice of socialism, he has now decided to dismantle NASA.

Earlier, he had redirected NASA toward his global warming agenda and is now wanting to use it as a diplomatic tool to make Muslims feel good.

When you think you’ve seen it all, as they say … you haven’t.

As President Obama’s support has fallen to record low numbers, one thing has struck me. How can a good number of Americans still be “undecided” or “do not know” how they feel about his presidency so far.

The far left, who hates or strongly dislikes America as we know it, likes him. I get that.

We who believe America is an exceptional nation, with a rich history and wonderful future and believe in the principles that made this the greatest nation on Earth, don’t like his presidency. I get that, too.

But how can anyone, knowing what we all now know, be “undecided”?

You tell me.

The greatest philosophical battle in our national history is building toward a climax. The very heart and soul of our country is the proverbial “line in the sand ” over the next 2 elections.

Our country is deeply divided over our future and what we will become. This is not a time to be silent nor uninformed.

And please don’t tell me this is not a spiritual and moral matter. That it is somehow political or partisan.

It’s time for people of faith to get real, clear their head, inform their mind, overcome any intimidation and move prayerfully to action.

God help us.

Be Prayerful. Be Vigilant. Be Informed. Be Discerning. Be Active. Be Blessed
